Please could you tell me whether the claim that praying behind an imam who leads that jama'h in a (so called) deobandi masjid, renders your own prayer 'invalid' is true? How can we possibly unite during these dark times when we are kept from attending the places where Muslims meet- the masjid? Farhaan

82 Assalamu `Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi ta`ala Sheikh, I would like to know why the barelvis recite the kalima together aloud after fard salah jama`a. This is very disturbing to those who arrive the jama`a late and need to make up their missed rak`at. A reknowned Hanafi faqih from Sham was asked this question and he said it hasn't been mentioned in the Hanafi book. Also none of the other groups (e.g. deobandi, tablighi) that adhere to the Hanafi madhab practise this. Is there a basis for this practise? Please explain. Sorry for the trouble. JazakAllah khair, Wasalamu `Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi ta`ala wa Barakatuh. I Hussain
83 Salaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu, Can you please tell me the difference between an Alim and a Sheikh (and is a Sheikh the same as a Mufti) ? I plan on going to Darul Uloom in England for 6 years to become an Alim, Insha' Allah, after I finish High School hear in New York, U.S.A...also, I am trying to become a Hafiz too, and I am 14 years old, I am trying to do this by myself (without a teacher) Is this advisable or should I have a teacher or enroll in a class or something? (the way I know I am pronouncing everything correctly is: I listen to tapes of Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sodais the Imam of Masjid Al-Haram at the Kab'ah) Much help is needed, I would greatly appreciate it if you could guide me along my way to becoming a Hafiz and an Alim Insha' Allah...I am also aware that there are tons of Darul Ulooms in England, from a couple of Alims that I spoke too, they said that the one in Bury (hope I spelled that right) is the best out of all of them....which school do you recomend Alim Sahib?? I would like it if you e-mailed me back a response before you post it on the Question Board...JAZAK-ALLAH !! Anwer Imam

108 A good friend of mine follows the Wahabi faith, although I've been told by him that I should not call him this. He says it could be argued that his particular sect are actually closer to following the sunnat of the Prophet (pbuh) than Sunni mulsims themselves, and so it is they that should be called Sunni mulsims. He quoted a surah in the quaran which states (paraphrase) "I have created the book for you and it is complete/perfect" or words to that effect-please forgive me as I can't remember the exact translation. He says that the implication of this is that we (Sunni) muslims (particularly those from Indian sub-continent) have introduced many innovations into the religion which he believes go contrary to the above surah (e.g. he cites zikr, durood salaam, recitation of the kalma after fard prayers, celebrating Milad-ul-Nabi, etc...) as examples. He says his reasoning for this is that the Ahadeeths followed by Sunni mulsims in the Indian subcontinent are weak. I would like to know whether there is any credence to his argument, and also why these practrices are not prevalent in Makkah and Medina, whom many would regard as being the true spiritual home of Islam. Having prayed at Victoria Park mosque now for some 12/13 years on a fairly regular basis I am now beginning to have doubts about some Sunni practices and am, as a result a little confused - can you please offer me some guidance? Anonymous
112 salaam' im a new practicing muslim, and i have many question too ask, but the question that is really bothering me is mentioned below:- according to the information i have gathered, the founder of the bervilie sect, the so called scholor, was a shiat, note that and all scholor need a shiakh, and his shiakh was the brother of goulam ahmed mirza (qadiani), so where does it leave him......., please inshallah can u provide me the required information, walikum asslaam shaikh abdullah
113 asslaam walikum According to many scholors, especially from saudi arbia, they say that by applying the 'ya' bit on the name of prophet( saw) is not accpectable, due to the reason that our beloved prophet (pbuh) is not among us, at this moment in time he is in his grave in madina!, so his(saw) is not amongst us, unlike allah(swt) he is the allknowing and allseeing. so it is acceptable to say 'ya allah' . so why is the 'ya' added to the prophet name? inshallah please can u answer my question jazakum allah. hamza yusuf

126 Assalamun alikum I will really appreciate, if you can answer the following question as soon as possible, regarding "Quran Khawani". Many of my brothers at my uni say that this an innovation (bid'a), and that there is no evidence in Shariah to commemorate any Muslim’s death at intervals of 7 days, 40 days, 100 days, etc. Please can you answer the question, with as many evidence as you can.
