AMAL-O-QALAAM

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (radi Allahu anho) has narrated that the Holy Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) has said that to relieve a Muslim of his wants, is more deserving of reward than ten years of Ittikaf (sitting in seclusion in prayers). (Tibrani)

Allahu ta'ala created human beings to obey and pray to Him. There are enormous rewards for obeying Him and for Praying. Praying 2 rakats of supererogatory or Nafl namaz, has reward exceeding the world and everything in it. But far exceeding this is helping or relieving a Muslim brother's wants as above Hadith indicates. Islam encompasses all aspects of and actions in our life. And this gives us the opportunity to earn great rewards and right results. But majority of us do not seem to know or practice this.

We go to the mosques and pray regularly. But our behaviour changes as soon as we come out of the mosques as if Islam is to be practised in the mosques only. It seems alien to take up the opportunity of helping our brother in his hour of need. We need to change our outlook and behaviour towards our Muslim brothers. Dealing with them politely and with salaam and a smile besides rewards, bring about friendship as well as peace and contentment to one. This behaviour should be extended to non-Muslims as well as animals and other creatures. But on the contrary, often we see people suffering unnecessarily as a result of our actions.

Indeed, Allah ta'ala has placed has placed great emphasis on human rights. A person, who has been wronged by another, will be compensated for the wrong done to him on the Day of Judgement if he does not get justice in , the world. The compensation even for a small debt or wrong done to a person will be enormous.

This new section 'Amal-o-Qalaam', meaning actions of the Word or Book, will be a regular feature in the magazine. Most Zikr is done as part of a daily routine with wudhu, at specific times, in a specified manner and number, although some Zikr such as reciting Durood Sharif and Astaghfar can be done at any time, whilst in bed, walking or working. We interact with others at all times and this gives us opportunity to put into action the many practical aspects of Islam and earn great rewards and benefits. The importance of having a good nature when dealing with people can be illustrated by the following Hadith. Hazrat Amir bin Rabia (radi Allahu anho) narrated that the Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) said that the person who is praised after his death even if he is bad before Allah ta'ala, He says to the Angels that He accepts the evidence of the people about His believer and forgives the deceased's sins (Bazaz).

In another Hadith by Hazrat Amir (radi Allahu anho), it is stated that whosoever came to know the fault of his brother and did not publicise it but concealed it, would have his sins and faults concealed by Allah. (Tibrani). Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radi Allah anho) has narrated that Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) stated that if anyone hides the faults of others, Allah will conceal his fault on the Day of Judgement. (Muslim)

It can be seen that when a person takes any action to help a Muslim brother, or even conceal his faults, there is a big reward for him. Allah ta'ala likes the action whereby a person is helped or that his dignity is maintained or faults concealed. And when the person dies and if people conceal his faults, then both the person who conceal the faults and the deceased benefit.

Hazrat Anas (radi Allahu anho) stated that Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) said that if any Muslim helps another Muslim brother, he will be admitted to the Paradise for this act although he will have committed sins. (Ibn Maaja)

Hazrat Abu Hurairah and Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (radi Allahu anho anhum ajamain) narrated that Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) stated that if anyone tries to relieve his brother of his want and succeeds in it. Allah puts him under the shade of seventy angels, who bless him and pray for him the whole day and on his every step, one sin is forgiven and his position is advanced one stage. (Abul Shaikh)

Hazrat Anas (radi Allahu anho) narrated that Holy Prophet (sa!lallaho alaihi wasallam) stated that if anyone advances to help a Muslim with his want, Allah ta'ala rewards him with seventy virtues on each step and forgives seventy sins. If the Muslim is relieved of his want by his effort, on completing his work, all his sins are forgiven and he becomes so purified of his sins as he is presently born. If he loses his life in the effort of relieving him, he will be admitted to Paradise without presenting any account for his acts. (Ibn Abi Duniya, Ishabani)

Hazrat Anas (radi Allahu anho) has also narrated that Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) stated that whosoever conveys a good tiding to his Muslim brother and pleases him with the news, will be pleased on the Day of Judgement by Allah. (Tibrani)

We pray to Allah ta'ala that the examples of our beloved Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam), the Sahaba and the pious (radi Allahu ta' ala anhum ajmain) in this section should help us guide and improve our actions and deeds. Ameen.
