Display Of True Love In The Battle Of Badr
(By Maulana Abdul Hai Naseemul Qaderi) The world of love is without doubt an amazing and astonishing world, where a lover, once he enters this domain, he cares not for himself, his belongings or his valuables. All he strives for is to gain the pleasure of his beloved. His love is so deep that he waits the moment where he may even sacrifice his physical life to gain spiritual salvation. This, to a lover, is the basis of his true success. Such was the love that the Companions of our Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) possessed for him. So immense was their love, that they were prepared to sacrifice their lives for Rasoolullah (sallallaho alaihi wasallam). They were drowned so deeply in the love for him that nothing in this world could drown them more. It was this love that granted them success in the heat and on that lengthy day of the 17th of Ramadhan, when while fasting they confronted the enemy in the battlefields. On the battlefields of Badr the difference between truth and falsehood was established. The Sahaabah were 313 in number with hardly any weapons or horses, The Kuffar were three times more powerful and were fully prepared for battle. When the Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) heard that Abu Jahal had arrived with his army on the plains of Badr to attack Medina, he called the Ansaar and the Muhajireen together for their opinion. Hazrat Abu Bakr (radi Allahu anhu) was the first to come forward and give an inspiring talk. He was followed by Hazrat Omar (radi Allahu anhu) who stressed on the protection of Islam. He vowed to even sacrifice his life it be needed. The Muhajireen came forward one after the other and registered for Battle. The Ansaar at this time were silent. When the Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) looked towards them, Hazrat Miqdaad bin Amar (radi Allahu anhu) stood up and said: "Ya Rasoolullah (sallallaho alaihi wasallam)! Are you placing your sight on us? 0' our Master! We are silent out of respect of the Muhajireen. We waited for them to give Ba'it, so that we may follow". By Allah! We will fight on your behalf; from the left and right. If you go into the sea, we will follow you even there. We are not like the Nation of Nabi Moosa (alaihis salaam) who said that both him and his Creator should fight their own battles. This is not loyalty, we will fight the enemy with our strength, and our martyrdom would be: our spiritual ascension." On hearing this, the face of the Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) began to glow. (Tibrani) From the Ansaar, Hazrat Sa' ad bin Maaz (radi Allahu anhu) also stood up and said: "We have brought Imaan on you and we bear testimony, that whatever you bring is Haqq, and on this, we have promised to obey you. You may go wherever you wish, we will follow you. We swear by Allah who sent you with Haqq that if you wish to conquer the seas, and none from amongst us will remain behind. We will confront and challenge the Kuffar. We will do battle with such splendour that your eyes will become cool." (Bukhari; Ibn Hisham) As the Battle began, three warriors from the Kuffar, Utbah bin Rabiah, Shaiba bin Rabia and Waleed bin Utbah came forward. Their challenge was accepted by firstly, Hazrat Hubaidah (radi Allahu anhu) who was 80 years old, Hazrat Harnzah (radi Allahu anhu) executed Shaiba, and Utbah made Hazrat Ubaidah (radi Allahu anhu) Shaheed, Many of the close relatives of the Muslims were present among the Kuffar. The Sahabaa did not look at them as family but as enemies of Islam. They killed even their close relatives for the protection of Islam and the love of the Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam). Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (radi Allahu anhu) beheaded his father, Hazrat Mus'ab (radi Allahu anhu) killed his brother Abdullah, Hazrat Omar (radi Allahu anhu) killed his uncle, A 'as bin Shaiba. Hazrat Abu Bakr (radi Allahu anhu) threatened his son. He said to him, "You are the friend of Shaitaan and I am the slave of Rasoolullah (sallallaho alaihi wasallam). Let us challenge one another." The Prophet (sallallaho alaihi wasallam) stopped him, for he knew that one day Abdur Rahman would accept Islam. Another Sahaabi, Hazrat Abdul Rahman ibn Auf (radi Allahu anhu) says that he always wanted to be the one to kill Abu Jahl, but on the battlefield two young children, Hazrat Maaz and Hazrat Muazz (radi Allahu anhuma) both came to him, they asked him concerning Abu Jahl saying that they would like to kill him for he swears and insults our Prophet. On hearing this. Hazral Abdur Rahman ibn Auf (radi Allahu anhu) pointed out Abu Jahl to the children. They immediately made an offensive in which they killed Abu Jahl. Thc Kuffar then attacked the children. Hazrat Mazz (radi Allahu anhu) was the first to become Shaheed. One of the arms of Hazrat Muazz(radi Allahu anhu) was badly injured. Seeing that his arm was in his way. hc placed the arm under his feet and ripped it off his shoulder. He then fought with one arm until he was made Shaheed. This great battle fought in the month of Ramadan shows the love and reverence that the Sahaba possessed for the Holy Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam). Although the Kuffar were larger in number and much better equipped, Allah gave victory to the small group of Muslims for it was they who were on the right path. In this Battle, seventeen companions of the Holy Prophet (sallallaho alai hi wasallam) were made Shaheed. This battle differentiated between Haq and Baatil. The right and wrong.
